Thomas Vinterberg, president of the 2010 Jury
Thomas Vinterberg (born in May 19th 1969) is a precocious film-maker. He shot his first short film at 16 and entered the National Film School of Denmark when he was 19 thus becoming its youngest student.
In 1993, his end of study short film, Last Round, was praised at the International Student Film Festival in Munich. After forming the Dogme 95 movement with Lars von Trier, his feature film The Celebration which followed the Dogme’s criteria received worldwide praise. It was awarded the Special Prize of the Jury at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. That very same year, he was awarded the European Discovery of the Year Award by the European Film Awards.
On 20th March 2005, Thomas Vinterberg, Lars von Trier, Søren Kragh-Jacobsen and Kristian Levring put an official end to the Dogme 95. In 2008, though the Dogme 95 was ended, the European Film Awards awarded them a prize for their Outstanding European Achievement in World Cinema.
Since then, Thomas Vinterberg shot two English-speaking films, It’s all about love (2002) and Dear Wendy (2005).
His latest feature film Submarino which was in competition at the 2010 Berlinale will be released in France on September 1st, 2010.
